Final boarding call for Flight 213…
I look across the table at him. It’s his flight they’re announcing, but you’d never know by the lackadaisical look on his face. Because it’s not the reason we’re here. At the Zadar Airport. Drinking crappy, expensive cappuccinos in order to use the wifi.
He has no intention of getting on that flight. We just stopped here to return the rental car we’ve been cruising up and down the coast of Croatia. The fact that we’re sitting here as his boarding announcements ramble by is just a bonus.
It’s extra affirmation that this is a choice. A choice to ignore the individual plans we’ve made and explore together for a little while longer. It might have been easier to justify if he’d “accidentally” missed the flight, instead of sitting here as they make the final boarding call. For that matter, it would’ve been easier for him to just get on the damn plane.
Easier yes. But it would’t have been right.
I knew from our first conversation at the waterfalls that we were on the same page of life. But I quickly realized we were only on the first sentence of our story together. We were only supposed to have 48 overlapping hours in Croatia. And, while I felt like I’d known him for decades after just a day, it still wasn’t long enough. So I suggested he stay. And the look on his face immediately told me he would. Because it was the same look I get when someone suggests I do something irrational and impulsive, but with the potential to be absolutely amazing.
And then–through a series of beautiful synchronicities–the universe colluded to make our adventure together possible.
As his plane is leaving the runway, we finish using the wifi to book two bus tickets to Dubrovnik. We backpack-up and make our way to the bus station. We detour in to a shady liquor store that turns out to be a craft beer heaven for two Americans, so we take a six-pack down to the beach and watch our farewell to Zadar’s sunsets.
There is no doubt in my mind this is exactly where we’re both supposed to be right now. It’s too perfect.
Life is crazy and beautiful when you have the courage to do what feels right in the moment. Despite plans made, plane flights purchased, itineraries and paths you’d envisioned. There is no justification for not following your intuition. The universe has a better plan for you than you could ever imagine- and it’s constantly trying to lead you there. Find your perfect frequency and live on it.
“…intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life, where the histories of all people are connected, and we are able to know everything, because it’s all written there.” -Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
